A Path

A path is a wonderful thing. It shows you where to go, even if you don't know where you are going. You know that if you follow the path, eventually it will lead somewhere. It is comforting to know that even when it starts to get dark, as long as you stay on the path, you will get to where you are going.

Everyday of my life I ask God what is his path for me.  Where does He want me to go?  What does he want me to do?  I feel like a child again, always asking my parents “are we there yet?”  One part of verse that gets used a lot is Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.” (NIV)  If you read the entire Psalm and the rest of verse 10 you can see that God is great and he can accomplish all things.  “Be still and know that I am God” is one of the “everything will be fine verse’s”.  I have heard that verse for a long time.   I use to sit in church and hear all kinds of verses that preachers quoted from.  They had a tendency to use only part of the verse, and not the whole.  I teach my children to read the entire chapter and understand the context and meaning of the verse.

When you are walking on an unfamiliar path, we become very aware of time.  How much time has gone by, how much longer is this walk, man it’s starting to get dark quick.  God works on his own time schedule.  I have to remind myself of that every day.  I have only one time requirement, give it to me now!  The Book of 2nd Peter puts this into perspective:   “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends:  With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. “ (NIV)  God will work on his on timetable and no amount of thinking or worrying will change God’s mind to hurry up and work on your schedule.

Just like a path has a purpose for you, to get you where you need to go, God has a path for you to follow, and lead you to where He wants you to go.  We don’t know the path, how long is it, or how far it is to our destination.  We have to be still and know that God will handle everything, and he will do it in his good time.
